Karl H. Schmid is of counsel with Degan, Blanchard & Nash. Mr. Schmid specializes in insurance coverage counseling and litigation. Mr. Schmid has handled a number of cases on both the trial and appellate levels. Mr. Schmid is admitted to practice in Louisiana and Texas, all Louisiana Federal Courts, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Texas, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Mr. Schmid attended Cornell University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1988. Mr. Schmid received a Master of Arts degree with distinction and a Juris Doctor degree,cum laude, from Loyola University, New Orleans in 1997. He also earned a Certificate of Civil Law from Loyola University's School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Schmid was a member of Moot Court and argued in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Schmid, moreover, was the Articles Editor of the Loyola Law Review. In 2001, Mr. Schmid earned a Doctor of Philosophy specializing in media law and history from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he taught media law. Upon leaving The University of North Carolina, Mr. Schmid was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Harold R. DeMoss, Jr., United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He also clerked for the Honorable Mary Ann Vial Lemmon, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
