Originally from Lewiston, Idaho, Josh attended Seattle University where he received a Bachelor of Social Work, cum laude, in 2003. In 2007 he received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Lewis & Clark Law School.
While at Lewis & Clark, Josh was a member of Lewis & Clark Law Review, serving as an Articles Editor in 2006-2007. Following the first year of law school he served as a summer clerk for Judge Michael Mosman of the United States District Court of Oregon. Josh joined the firm as a summer associate in 2006 and continued working as a law clerk until he became a full-time associate shortly after obtaining his J.D.
