During his 40-plus years as a trial lawyer practicing in Florida, Edward R. Nicklaus has tried and defended cases involving motor vehicles and trucks, products liability, general insurance law, and admiralty. His role has been that of outside trial counsel for defense clients in all types of cases, from catastrophic injuries to wrongful death, to property losses, as well as insurance coverage issues, and other property, life, and casualty cases. Mr. Nicklaus maintains an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest level attainable by a practicing attorney.
Mr. Nicklaus was born in East Orange, New Jersey in 1945 and grew up in Kokomo, Indiana. In 1967, he graduated from DePauw University located in Greencastle, Indiana with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He earned his Juris Doctorate in 1971 from the University of Louisville and is a member of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity. Mr. Nicklaus served in the United States Army prior to graduating from law school. He is admitted to practice before all Florida and Kentucky State Courts; The U.S. District Courts of the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida; U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits; and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Nicklaus has been a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the D.R.I since 1979. He is a member of the Transportation Lawyers Association and the Florida, Kentucky, Federal, and American Bar Associations. His firm is a member of the American Trucking Association, the Florida Trucking Association, Truckload Carriers Association, Trucking Industry Defense Association, the Conference of Freight Counsel, the National Private Truck Council, the National Tank Truck Carriers, the Southeastern Admiralty Institute, the maritime Law Association, the Florida Defense Lawyers Association, the Dade County Bar Association, and an Associate Member of the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
