Waldy Derksen

Waldy has been working as a lawyer at 1135 Henderson Highway, downtown North Kildonan, since 1981. Waldy operated Derksen Law in a small office setting from November 1981 to July 1, 2018, at which time Derksen Law became associated with PKF.

Education:

Waldy graduated from University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Arts (focusing on Political Science, English, and Religious Studies), and subsequently from University of Manitoba Faculty of Law in 1980. He articled at Legal Aid Manitoba, was called to the Bar in 1981, and has been committed to ongoing legal and other education throughout his career.

Areas of Practice:

Waldy’s primary emphasis at present is on wills and estates, real estate, and business law. He also has experience in other areas of law, including criminal, family and personal injury.

Languages Spoken:

English and German.

Community Involvement:

Waldy has in the past taught at Red River College (legal assistant program) and has made public presentations relating to wills and estates and other areas of law. He has been involved in coaching basketball and has served as a board member in a number of community and church organizations.

Personal Interests:

Waldy understands all things as spiritual. He especially appreciates:

• those who courageously and enthusiastically engage in all of life (i.e. joy and blues and everything in between)
• movement, including playing basketball, hiking, running, walking, weights, etc.
• the outdoors, travelling
• creative writing and other forms of imaginative expression
• the important contribution lawyers can make to the common good and the positive functioning of society
• developing a deeper understanding of the wonder, weirdness and mystery of co-workers and clients, indeed all of life
