Ms. Cathy Wu graduated from the National University of Singapore with distinction. She has been working with Watson & Band Law Offices in its Shanghai headquarters since 2002. In 2009, she visited Australia as a member of the PRC Lawyer’s Delegation of the Young Lawyers Exchange Project co-organized by the judicial authorities of China and Australia.
Cathy has dedicated her practice to areas such as data, intellectual property and finance, and has provided comprehensive legal services to the PRC governmental authorities, trade associations, and a multitude of domestic and foreign corporate clients across various sectors including TMT, finance, healthcare, automobile, mechanics, engineering and FMCG. Recently, she has led her legal team to successfully handle several landmark projects/cases by assisting clients like Shanghai Data Exchange (SDE), Shanghai Public Hospital Medical Data Center, Shanghai Futures Exchange (SFE), Shanghai International Energy Exchange Co., Ltd., (INE), Shanghai Insurance Exchange (SHIE) and Shanghai Technology Exchange (STEX) in structuring and developing sector-specific rules and data compliance best practices.
Cathy is presently a member of the Internet and Information Technology Law Committee of Shanghai Bar Association, a member of the China Law Society, a part-time researcher at the Internet Rule of Law Research Institute of East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL), Co-chair of INTA Bulletin China Subcommittee and a member of the Asia-Pacific Committee of ITECHLAW. Cathy has also delivered several keynote speeches on intellectual property and big data to organizations such as corporate members of JAPAN EXTERNAL TRADE ORGANIZATION (JETRO) and Consulate-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Shanghai, as well as presided over several forums on cutting-edge subjects of the data law.
