Q & A with Adam J. Waskie
Adam J. Waskie is an associate at McCollom D'Emilio Smith Uebler LLC in Wilmington, Del. He focuses his practice on corporate, commercial, and fiduciary litigation in the Delaware courts. Adam and his wife, Elizabeth, have one child, Nolan, age 2, and are expecting their second in February 2024.
Before becoming an attorney, what was your first job?
I worked at an ice cream shop at 16 years old as my first job. I still apply many lessons today that I learned working in retail throughout high school and college.
What motivated you to pursue a legal career?
In eighth grade, I had the opportunity to conduct a mock trial. I thought, “this is pretty cool.” From that point forward, I knew that I wanted to become a lawyer.
Who was your chief mentor and how did he or she influence your career?
My parents pushed me to work hard in school, but also stressed that being a well-rounded person is equally important.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Your reputation is your most valuable asset.”

What is one thing you would like to learn to do?
Golfing without losing a dozen balls per round.
What is your proudest career achievement?
Being sworn into the Delaware Bar.
What other career path might you have chosen?
I majored in business and marketing with an eye toward becoming a corporate litigator. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
What do you do to give back to your community?
My son was born with a club foot. Thanks to the Club Foot Clinic team at Nemours Children’s Hospital, you would never know it. My wife and I act as advocates for and support new families that have children born with a club foot by acting as a resource through our experience.

What is your most treasured material possession?
My wedding ring.
What is your happiest childhood memory?
Regularly fishing, boating, and camping with my father.
What is your favorite movie and book?
Movie: “Christmas Vacation.”
Book: Any book that I read to my son before bed. I may soon qualify as an expert witness in dinosaurs.
What is the most awe-inspiring place you have visited?
My wife and I went on our honeymoon in Antigua.

What are your favorite leisure time pursuits?
Spending time with my family. We love being outdoors. We find ourselves at the beach or pool every weekend. I am also an avid baseball and football fan.

Who is on your guest list for the ideal dinner party?
Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Jim Gaffigan, Zach Galifianakis, and Nate Bargatze. I am a big stand-up comedy fan.
