Upcoming EMEA Regional Meeting to highlight host of business topics

The 2023 EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) Regional Meeting will take place June 20-21 in Zürich, the Swiss city that is a global center for banking and finance in northern Switzerland. Topics on the agenda include panel discussions on M&A, insolvency, as well as new trends such as litigation and arbitration funding or quantum experts.

At this regional gathering, we encourage each Primerus™ law firm in the EMEA to send at least one representative, which will underscore our commitment to the importance of continuing legal education, one of the pillars of our worldwide alliance.

The event is being hosted by Suter Howald Rechtsanwälte, a Zürich based business law firm that has been a member of Primerus™ since 2018.

The two-day meeting will kick off with a cocktail reception on Tuesday, June 20 from 6-9 p.m. at the offices of Suter Howald, while the formal program will unfold on Wednesday, June 21 with and “Introduction and Expectations” segment from 9:30-10:50 a.m., during which time each firm is offered the opportunity to present issues of interest from its local perspective.

The first panel discussion of the day – from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – will focus on mergers and acquisitions, highlighting cross-border deals and achieving the best effect with regard to local laws.

Following a luncheon, the second panel discussion will begin at 2 p.m. and will feature the challenges posed by insolvency. The formal conference will conclude with closing remarks at 3:15 p.m.

Prior to dinner at 6:30 p.m. on the final day of the conference, several leisurely and scenic walks around Zürich will be offered as social opportunities to forge friendships with fellow Primerus™ members.

As chair of the EMEA for Primerus™, I aim to broaden our appeal across the three regions that we serve, stressing the value that developing contacts and legal relationships can have on a business and personal level.

To that end, I recently became involved in an Arab-Austro Chamber of Commerce (AACC), an organization that was founded more than three decades ago to strengthen the economic ties between Austria and the Arab countries in the Middle East. In similar respects to Primerus™, the AACC emphasizes a spirit of cooperation and a culture of understanding, two instruments that we can use to build the EMEA into a legal force for the good of our members and clients in the European, Middle Eastern, and African regions in the years to come.

Best regards,
Klaus Oblin
Chair of the EMEA
