Kathleen Hatfield Joins Law Offices of Stewart and Stewart

The Law Offices of Stewart and Stewart (Washington, DC) is pleased to announce that Kathleen Hatfield, who worked as Legislative Counsel to U.S. Senate Appropriations Chairman Robert C. Byrd for six years, joined the Stewart and Stewart law firm on October 1 to lead the firm's efforts on appropriations funding. Ms. Hatfield went to the private sector in 2008, serving as Vice President in the government relations division of the Russ Reid Company. There, she focused on the congressional appropriations process and acquiring federal funding for non-profit organizations.

Ms. Hatfield began her career on the Hill with Senator Henry M. “Scoop” Jackson and then Senator Edward M. Kennedy. She later became Associate Director of International Trade for the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) while in law school. She subsequently entered private practice, handling international trade cases. She transitioned to Import Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce and was then invited to join the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. International Trade Commission. More recently, in 2002, she returned to the Hill and worked with Senator Byrd on matters involving the appropriations process, as well as trade law, economics, and other topics such as judicial nominations, the constitutionality of proposed legislation, and Senate procedure.

She obtained both her J.D. and Masters in Foreign Service at Georgetown. She also attended Gonzaga University. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar, the US Court of International Trade, and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Humane Society in Maryland.
