Alvan Bobrow is a partner in Barton’s tax practice. He focuses his practice on state and local, federal, and international taxation for clients in the financial services, manufacturing, e-commerce, entertainment, and media industries.

He advises international companies locating operations in the United States and counsels international and U.S. based businesses on treaty, permanent establishment, and constitutional nexus issues. Alvan has counseled high net worth individuals and celebrities in over 150 residency audits. His criminal defense practice concentrates on the investigations of both individuals and businesses in matters relating to tax fraud, unreported income, and tax shelter abuses.

Prior to going into private practice, Alvan was Vice President and General Tax Counsel for CBS, Inc. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, he advised the board and the C-suite on tax and legal issues in the rapidly evolving sectors and jurisdictions in which the business operated. He has considerable experience working with senior government officials and legislative committees across the country to develop statutory provisions, regulations, and administrative solutions to complex business challenges. He is credited as the principal drafter of the national multi-state income apportionment rules for broadcasters.

Before joining Barton, Alvan was a partner at Akerman LLP and, before that led the National, State and Local tax group as a partner at Mayer Brown.
