Mr. VanWhy joined Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP in 2013 and is a partner with the firm, where he represents and advises a diverse array of municipal, school, and business clients. He frequently advises municipal and school clients on borrowings, Article 78 proceedings, zoning and planning matters, open meetings and freedom of information issues, procurements, and capital construction projects, while for school clients, he also serves as special education counsel and as a student discipline hearing officer. For business clients, Mr. VanWhy has advised on sales and acquisitions and other business related transactions and agreements.

Prior to joining Coughlin & Gerhart, Mr. VanWhy worked for two years as an associate for a respected Utica-based law firm, where he also provided legal advice and solutions to municipal and business clients. While in law school, Mr. VanWhy clerked for a respected Albany-based law firm, the New York State Bar Association, and the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

Mr. VanWhy is a member of the Broome County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
