Steve Perkins specializes in complex commercial litigation and the resolution of high-value property damage and personal injury claims.
Steve earned an A.B. magna cum laude from Princeton University in 1987, with an undergraduate thesis that tested a quantitative model of public opinion change against decades of real-world data. He earned his J.D. with honors in 1990 from the University of Florida College of Law, where his studies included independent work in critical theory and literary criticism and a semester of immersion in international law, EU law, and Dutch language at the Rijksuniversiteit te Leiden in the Netherlands. Steve also studied French language and literature at the Centre d’Etudes Linguistiques d’Avignon in Provence.
His academic background in economics and mathematics has helped Steve spearhead effective representation of clients. Almost ten years as general counsel for a telecommunications firm armed him with valuable insights into the needs and perspectives of business owners, managers, employees, and customers.
Experience in multidistrict litigation, in federal and state trial and appellate courts, and in a broad range of arbitration forums in Florida, Louisiana, Virginia, New York, D.C., and across the country have allowed Steve to achieve superior results for clients and insurers in property losses and personal injury claims ranging from four to nine figures. His experience with technical issues has helped him win tactical advantages like striking all seven of a plaintiff's expert witnesses before trial in a traumatic brain injury case.
Steve is admitted to practice in the federal and state courts of Florida, Louisiana, and Virginia, as well as the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Eleventh, D.C., and Federal U.S. Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Steve's current and recent pro bono experience has included work with the Youth Empowerment Project, the LGBT+ Archives Project, the Friends of the Cabildo, and the Gulf Coast Brotherhood Ride. Steve enjoys spending free time with his teen son and his collie dog.
