Will Lawson was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. After high school, he left the Indianapolis area to attend college at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. While attending GW, Will worked for several nonprofit organizations and traveled extensively throughout Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe. The most notable experience was his position as a Research Fellow with the Center for the Prevention of Genocide, where Will monitored global “hot spots” for pre-genocidal indicators as well as prepared and participated in presentations to the U.S. State Department and testified before congressional committees regarding human rights issues all around the world. Will received the Humanitarian Award from the Center in recognition of his work.

After completing his undergraduate studies in International Affairs, Biology and Public Health, Will began working in the mortgage industry as a loan originator. Prior to matriculating into law school at the Robert McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, Will left the mortgage industry to join Apple.

While in law school, Will completed extensive pro bono representation in a wide variety of practice areas, including immigration law, consumer law, family law, and landlord-tenant law. He also worked as an AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate with the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic during his first and second summers of law school. Will was awarded the Norm Lefstein Pro Bono Award upon graduating law school.

Will joined the Office of the Indiana Attorney General during his final year in law school and was offered a position as a Deputy Attorney General after passing the Indiana Bar Exam. He focused on prosecuting professional licensees on behalf of the state of Indiana. This included Real Estate Agents, Appraisers, Auctioneers, Doctors, Nurses, Psychologists, and Mental Health Providers when they breached their ethical obligations.

Following the adoption of his first child, Will decided it was time to leave the Office of the Attorney General in order to spend more time with his wife and infant. Will founded Lawson Legal Service with the intention of maintaining a flexible schedule so that he could spend as much time as possible caring for his son.

Will joined Hackman Hulett LLP in early 2019. He continues to focus his practice on serving small to medium-sized businesses, individuals who hold Indiana professional licenses, individuals seeking estate planning and charitable giving advice, and general litigation for both individuals and businesses. Through the adoption of his two children, he has also learned a great deal about Indiana adoption law and has assisted clients with various adoption-related issues.

Will continues to support public interest causes by serving several nonprofit clients, either as pro bono counsel or by providing services at reduced rates. He currently serves on the Natural Resources and Horticultural Committee for Newfields (formerly the Indianapolis Museum of Art) and has previously served on the Indiana University Well House Advisory Board, WFYI 20.40 Board, and the Indiana State Bar Association’s Continuing Education Committee.

Will is currently admitted to practice in the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana and all counties throughout the state of Indiana.
