I am an associate in the firm’s Wills & Estates and Estate Litigation groups and support clients in all matters related to estate planning, estate administration, and estate litigation. I work with families and individuals of all backgrounds to identify their end-of-life goals and plan for how they will distribute their estates to family, friends, or favourite charities in the most tax efficient way.
With nearly 30 years of experience as a lawyer, I have practiced law in Sri Lanka, Toronto and at another Ottawa firm. I was called to the Ontario bar in 2013. My previous experience in areas of incapacity hearings, civil litigation and family law brings a well-rounded perspective to my practice.
A member of the Women’s Law Association of Ontario, I have presented professional development seminars for the Law Society of Ontario and have been an active volunteer with Pro Bono Law Ontario for many years. I am also registered to sit for the Trusts & Estate Planner (TEP) designation exam, which will bring added value to my clients.
I believe in the importance of empathy, communication, and active listening in my practice. I understand that estate matters involve making long-lasting and often difficult decisions that can involve sensitive, emotional issues and even conflict. Clients appreciate my compassionate approach and ability to help navigate complicated family dynamics while ensuring their final wishes are honoured with respect and consideration.
In my spare time, I enjoy a good book with a cup of coffee, the theatre, cooking and travelling to new destinations. I have one son, a beautiful tiny granddaughter and a cat.
